McDermott Will & Emery Scholarship X Fulbright | Announcing our 2022 Scholars

Overview

For the third year of its partnership with the Fulbright Program, McDermott Will & Emery’s Paris office is awarding two scholarships to two law students to continue their studies at the university of their choice in the United States.

On Tuesday, May 31, 2022, the candidates shortlisted by the Fulbright Commission after a double pre-selection process, presented themselves before a jury composed of several law professionals and were able to present their academic and professional projects.

The members of the jury and the firm are very pleased to announce that for this 3rd rendition of the partnership with the Fulbright Program, two laureates have been selected: Ariane Furniss Malherbe and Solène Roizard. The excellence of their profiles and their involvement in several associative projects were key factors in the jury’s choice.

Once again this year, we received excellent candidates, with brilliant academic backgrounds, who are very committed through numerous volunteer and community activities and who have very interesting projects. To reward this spirit of excellence, which we value so highly, we have decided to select two profiles to receive a McDermott X Fulbright scholarship. We warmly congratulate Ariane Furniss Malherbe and Solène Roizard on this occasion and wish them a rich learning experience in the United States that we hope will be an asset for their future careers,” added Sabine Naugès, McDermott partner, on behalf of the jury members.

The jury was composed of:

  • Irène Cambourakis – EVP General Counsel, Board secretary and member of the Executive Committee at TECHNI
  • COLOR

  • Florence Muh-Wallerand – General Counsel – Wholesale & International Networks at ORANGE
  • Ana Cristina Barriendo, Head of Recruitment, Carreers and Training, Timothée Gagnepain, Sabine Naugès and David Revcolevschi, partners at McDermott Will & Emery

About the winners

Ariane Furniss Malherbe, 20 years old, attended the Grande Ecole du Droit program at the University of Paris-Saclay (DU Law and Advisory). This is a pioneering course, which each year welcomes a class of around thirty baccalaureate students with an excellent academic and linguistic level, and leads to four diplomas in four years – the Licence Business Law (company law) and the Master 1 in Business Law of the University of Paris-Saclay, the Diplôme Universitaire de la Grande École du Droit and an LL.M. (Master of Laws). Thanks to the McDermott X Fulbright scholarship, Ariane will complete her LL.M. at DePaul University in Chicago.

Ariane is very involved in AEGED (Association des élèves et anciens élèves de la Grande Ecole du droit).

Solène Roizard followed a program at ESCP Europe, including an exchange program at the University Carlos II of Madrid, while completing a Master 1 and 2 in Business Law at the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. Thanks to the McDermott X Fulbright scholarship, she plans to continue her studies by completing an LL.M. at Chicago University.

Amongst her numerous associative commitments, she has been a volunteer in humanitarian missions with Rue des Enfants in Bolivia and Chantiers du Père Ceyrac in India.
