Bourse McDermott Will & Emery X Fulbright : 2024 Scholarships

Overview

For the fourth year of its partnership with the Fulbright Program, McDermott Will & Emery is awarding two scholarships to two law students to continue their studies at the university of their choice in the United States.

One month ago, the candidates shortlisted by the Fulbright Commission after a double pre-selection process, presented themselves before a jury composed of several partners of the firm and the internal recruitment & careers’ director. They were able to present their academic and professional projects.

The firm, and particularly the members of the jury, are delighted to announce that, for this 4th edition of the partnership with the Fulbright program, two laureates have once again been selected. They are Alice Chen, specializing in finance and currently a lawyer at the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations, before joining New York University, and Hugo Deloche, a graduate of the Magistère Juriste d’Affaires – DJCE program at the University Paris-Panthéon-Assas, who will be joining Boston University. The excellence of their academic backgrounds, their personalities, and the expressed ambitions were decisive factors in the jury’s choice.

The students we received this year were remarkable, both in terms of their academic achievements, their commitment to various projects, and their personalities. Just like last year, we have decided to select two laureates to reward both this spirit of excellence cherished by the firm and an already exceptional experience,” commented Sabine Naugès, McDermott partner on behalf of the jury members.

The jury was composed of:

  • Romain Desmonts, Nicolette Kost de Sèvres and Sabine Naugès, partners at McDermott Will & Emery in Paris
  • Ana Cristina Barriendo Escuin, Director of Recruitment, Careers and Training, McDermott Will & Emery, Paris

About the winners:

Alice Chen holds two Master’s degrees, one in Banking and Financial Law and another in Business Law from the University Paris II Panthéon-Assas. She has completed several internships in companies, banks, and leading international law firms.

Fluent in three languages, Chinese, French, and English, her involvement in student associations during her studies at the University Paris V Descartes (Start Project, Legal Clinic, and tutoring) continued at Assas, where she served as the president of the Banking and Financial Law Master’s Association. Her goal is to become a lawyer in the United States. Passionate about exploring new cultures, she wishes to be immersed in a new environment and work on international cases in banking and financial law.

Hugo Deloche studied law at the Université Panthéon-Assas Paris II. He completed the DJCE combined with two additional diplomas. He also followed a MOOC in arbitration law at the University of Montpellier. Last year, he spent a year in Oxford, and has completed several internships in companies and law firms.

Passionate about hip-hop, Hugo used to teach this dance and was a member of the Oxford Dance Society during his time in England. Alongside his passion for hip-hop, Hugo has always been very involved in the University’s associative life: member of the board of the Clinique juridique d’Assas; member of the team that took part in the “Vis Moot”, an annual arbitration competition in Vienna; member of the Ecole de droit, an association aimed at strengthening links between students, developing teamwork and problem-solving; and finally member of the Oxford Law Society. His ambition is to pass the bar in New York or California.
