McDermott Adds Impressive Energy & Infrastructure Firepower for Clients in Asia and Globally

Overview

International law firm McDermott Will & Emery today announced the appointment of Ignatius Hwang as a partner in London, bringing over 30 years’ experience of advising governments and sponsors on public-private partnership projects (PPP) and all stages of energy, infrastructure and resources projects from development to operation.

“Ignatius’ proven track record of providing strategic and trusted advice to international clients makes him a fantastic addition to the Firm’s Energy and Infrastructure team to meet a growing demand. He will play a leading role in developing our offerings in London, Singapore and Southeast Asia more broadly and complement our capabilities in other growth regions, such as India and the Middle East,” said Hamid Yunis, Managing Partner of the Firm’s London office.

“Our goal is to provide outstanding service wherever our clients need it, and Singapore is strategically important to us as a thriving existing market and gateway to the Asia Pacific region for both inbound and outbound investment. We have a world-class and expanding global Energy and Infrastructure team and Ignatius’ leading experience in major projects throughout Asia will enable us to deepen relationships with global and regional clients,” said Mike Poulos, Partner and Head of Strategy.

Ignatius Hwang commented: “McDermott has a stellar reputation for professional excellence, collegial and collaborative culture, and for its deep and broad Energy and Infrastructure capabilities. I am excited by the fantastic opportunity to help establish and shape the Firm’s increased focus on Singapore and growing its business in the region.”

Ignatius’s transactional experience, particularly on acquisitions and project financing, includes: deal structuring; due diligence; drafting and negotiation of development, acquisition, fuel supply and power purchase agreements; engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts; operation and maintenance (O&M) contracts; and financing and security documentation. Ignatius has also been heavily involved in, and has helped shaped, the development of the PPP projects market in Singapore.

Ignatius has previously been recognized in leading directories, including Legal 500 Asia Pacific, Best Lawyers, Who’s Who Legal and Chambers & Partners.
