Mark Pearlstein , speaking as a former federal prosecutor, said that a “marijuana defense” used by lawyers of a college friend convicted of aiding the accused Boston Marathon bomber might not have been appropriate for an older suspect, noting that “if it were anyone other than a college kid it might be a bridge too far.” Mr. Pearlstein predicted that defendant “almost surely” will get a relatively light two or three year sentence due to his youth and lack of a prior criminal record.
