Michelle Gon focuses her practice on compliance and regulatory matters, including anti-corruption, unfair competition, anti-monopoly and anti-fraud representations.
Most of Michelle's clients are large US-based, European or Japanese multinational corporations (MNCs) doing business in China, or large China-based MNCs doing business globally. She advises corporations across a number of sectors, including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, life sciences, health care, agriculture, food-related products, wine and spirits, hospitality, cruise lines, manufacturing, information technology (IT) and high tech. Many of her clients are listed on the US, Hong Kong or other stock exchanges.
Michelle has extensive experience handling international transactions in a wide spectrum of practice areas across China, the United States and EU countries. With her long-term, on-the-ground experience doing business within and outside China, she provides practical advice to clients on complex legal issues. Michelle often assumes the role of external general counsel for various clients on strategic development and compliance issues.
Prior to joining McDermott Will & Emery, Michelle was a principal at a large international law firm stationed in Shanghai, and former managing partner of its Taipei office. She also served as the chief legal officer/vice president of Semiconductor Manufacturing International (Shanghai) Corporation and as an international lawyer for McDonald's Corporation, headquartered in Oak Brook, Illinois.
