Charles Weir is an accomplished litigator with more than 17 years of experience handling complex business litigation and internal investigations. Charles’ complex business litigation practice focuses on representing public and private companies and executives in class actions, shareholder derivative suits, qui tam litigation and commercial disputes. He currently serves as the head of the Los Angeles Litigation Group and co-chair of the Firm’s Class Action Team.
His class action matters have involved claims of unfair business practices, breaches of fiduciary duty, fraud, off-label prescription drug marketing, false advertising, violations of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), and violations of federal and state securities laws. Charles was defense counsel in two of the largest shareholder derivative lawsuits in California history. He represented officers and directors of Pacific Gas & Electric Company in shareholder derivative litigation arising from the company’s natural gas pipeline business. He also represented a co-founder of Broadcom Corporation in connection shareholder derivative and class action litigation arising from allegations of stock option backdating.
Charles practice spans multiple industries, with an emphasis on representing health care providers. Many of his health care representations are in connection with qui tam claims. These include claims brought under the federal False Claims Act, the California False Claims Act and Section 1871 of the California Insurance Code.
Beyond his commercial civil practice and class action work, Charles has significant experience representing clients in connection with internal investigations and responding to government subpoenas and information demands.
