Overview

McDermott will be hosting our 2nd annual International Tax Seminar in Milan.

Our panel of speakers will be composed of distinguished speakers from industry, as well McDermott lawyers from key European and US offices.

Edward Barret (OECD) will act as our keynote speaker, and will provide an update on BEPS Actions and MLI ratification status.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER | Edward Barret

Edward Barret joined the OECD’s Centre for Tax Policy and Administration as an Advisor in the Tax Treaties Unit (Tax Treaties, Transfer Pricing & Financial Transactions Division) in 2008. At the OECD Mr. Barret works in the Secretariat for Working Party No. 1 of the Committee on Fiscal Affairs, which is the OECD body responsible for the development of the OECD Model Tax Convention. He led the work on Action 14 (Make dispute resolution mechanisms more effective) of the OECD/G20 Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) Project and contributed to the work on BEPS Action 6 (Prevent treaty abuse) and BEPS Action 7 (Prevent the artificial avoidance of permanent establishment status). He contributed to the development of the arbitration provision in the BEPS Multilateral Instrument and drafted the Model Competent Authority Agreement on Arbitration that will be used as the basis for implementing the MLI arbitration provision.
