Peter Faber wrote this bylined letter to the editor criticizing an earlier article which contended that a corporation should not engage in transactions designed solely to reduce taxes. “Transactions that have real economic consequences should be respected even if their only motivation is to save taxes,” Mr. Faber wrote, adding “there is no reason why [companies] should not be allowed to restructure later on for tax reasons.”
