On January 12 and 13, 2015, U.S. President Barack Obama made two announcements regarding the White House’s continued work to address evolving issues in privacy and security. While some aspects of the administration’s proposals, such as student privacy, are noncontroversial and will likely gain traction in this Congress, others, such as efforts to enact an omnibus federal privacy law grounded in a “Consumer Privacy Bill of Rights,” appear to have little hope of succeeding. This Special Report provides an overview and analysis of the two plans and explains their impact on U.S. companies.
