The M&A Advisor named McDermott Will & Emery a winner in the “M&A Deal of the Year” ($1 billion to $10 billion) category at its 11th Annual International M&A Awards. The firm was recognised for its work advising Praxair on the EUR 5 billion sale of the majority of its businesses in Europe to Taiyo Nippon Sanso Corporation. McDermott was chosen from over 200 participating firms to receive this award.
McDermott advised on all aspects of the divestment, which was critical in ensuring the consummation of the Praxair-Linde merger. The global McDermott team included over 100 lawyers and was led by London-based partner Lisa O’Neill, with support from Elisabeth Moseley, Linda Zeman, Marta Wrobel and Matthew Chen in London, Shawn Helms, Joanna Lin and Blake Wong in Dallas and Andrea Hamilton in Brussels. The assets sold included Praxair’s industrial gases businesses in Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Britain.

The all-share merger of equals has created a global industrial gas leader, generating 2017 pro forma revenues of approximately $27 billion, with a market capitalization of approximately $90 billion and over 80,000 employees across more than 100 countries serving over two million customers.
The awards will be presented at a black tie Gala on Wednesday, June 5, at The New York Athletic Club in New York City.
