Overview
Jack Thorne is a litigation partner and Co-Head of the London Trial Group. He focuses his practice on litigation and dispute resolution, advising across a broad range of domestic and international disputes, with a focus on commercial litigation and arbitration, finance litigation, and corporate insolvency. He has particular experience dealing with cross-border disputes arising out of corporate and financial transactions, including claims involving breaches of warranty and misrepresentation, as well multi-party/group litigation, including in the areas of data protection and securities.
Jack advises on complex litigation at all levels of the English civil court system and also has experience handling significant cases before various arbitral tribunals, including the London Court of International Arbitration, the International Chamber of Commerce, and the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre.
He primarily acts for clients in the banking, finance, private equity, private capital, advertising, and media industries but has experience in a wide range of sectors, including energy, telecoms, insurance, sports, and live events.

Results
- Acted for an Irish telecommunications company in a novel damages claim valued at c. £70 million against a British multi-national telecommunications company in the Competition List of the High Court, alleging breaches of statutory duty, including under competition legislation
- Acting for an Italian publicly-listed construction company in defending claims valued at €200 million brought in the Commercial Court by the world’s largest fertiliser producer under performance bonds issued by two banks in relation to a construction project in Russia
- Acted for a Nasdaq-listed critical events software company in defending a c. US$60 million Commercial Court claim under a share purchase agreement, involving allegations of breach of contract and that the company failed to comply with reporting, regulatory and Nasdaq Listing requirements, including by failing to make prompt disclosure of information reasonably expected to affect the value of its securities
- Acted for the UK’s largest debt purchase company in a c. £50 million Commercial Court claim relating to breaches of warranties contained in a share purchase agreement*
- Acted for a Greek international financial institution in defending a c. €33 million claim brought against it in the Commercial Court concerning alleged breaches of warranties contained in a loan portfolio purchase agreement*
- Acted for the claimant, a US investment firm, in a HKIAC arbitration concerning the enforcement of a put option in a joint venture agreement worth c. US$ 200 million*
- Acted for a multi-national entertainment and live events company in civil claims and other contentious matters arising out of a large-scale data breach of its systems, including defending a multi-million pound group action in the High Court brought by individuals seeking damages for alleged loss of data*
- Acted for a European telecommunications provider in a multi-million pound claim concerning allegations of IP infringement brought against it in the High Court*
- Acted for the claimant, a consumer lender, in successfully obtaining a freezing injunction and judgment in relation to claims against one of its former directors for misappropriation of company funds and failure to pay for allotted shares*
- Acting for the defendant, a global supplier and operator of offshore floating platforms, in High Court and Court of Appeal proceedings in Ghana relating to claims for injunctive relief and damages for inducement of breach of contract, conspiracy, and tortious interference with contractual and business relations*
- Advised a leading clothing retailer on various contentious matters arising out of its Company Voluntary Arrangement, including Part 8 proceedings brought by a creditor challenging the CVA on the basis of unfair prejudice under section 6 of the Insolvency Act 1986*
Investigations
- Acted for a number of international financial institutions in Europe and the Middle East in relation to multi-agency inquiries, including conducting internal investigations into alleged breaches of OFAC sanctions and reporting to OFAC and the DOJ*
- Advised a global pharmaceutical company in an internal anticorruption investigation concerning its operations in Africa*
- Acted for a Brazilian aerospace conglomerate in relation to the implementation of an enhanced compliance program required as part of a deferred prosecution agreement entered into with the DOJ in relation to FCPA violations*
