Concentrates in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, strategic investments, joint ventures, and general corporate and securities matters.

Bob’s significant transactions include the acquisition of Safeway Inc. by Albertsons Companies, an affiliate of Cerberus Capital Management LP. He also advised Albertsons Companies in its acquisition from SUPERVALU of supermarkets operating under the Albertsons, Acme, Jewel, Star Markets and Shaw’s banners, as well as its purchase of United Supermarkets. Other significant transactions include Cerberus’ purchase of a controlling interest in the Chrysler automotive and auto finance businesses from Daimler AG.

He has also represented US investors in a large number of cross-border acquisitions of distressed assets, particularly in Europe.

  • Acquisition of Safeway Inc. by Albertsons Companies and an investor group led by Cerberus Capital Management LP.
  • Purchase of United Supermarkets by Albertsons Companies.

  • Acquisition by an affiliate of Cerberus Capital Management LP of controlling interest in the Chrysler automotive and auto finance businesses from Daimler AG.
  • Sale of SSA Global Technologies Inc. to Infor AG.
  • Acquisition of GSW, a German real estate company, by an affiliate of certain private equity funds.
  • Purchase of Cingular Wireless (n.k.a. Velocita Wireless) by an affiliate of certain private equity funds.
  • Sale of Velocita Wireless to Sprint/Nextel.
  • Acquisitions by SSA Global Technologies of Elevon, Provia Software, EXE Techologies, e.piphany, Arzoon, Baan, Infinium and interBiz, the eBusiness applications division of Computer Associates.
  • Purchase of Decision Services Inc. by PaineWebber Asset Management.
  • Purchase of Verdugt B.V. and related businesses by Castle Harlan.
  • Acquisition of NYCE Corp. by First Data Corp.
  • Acquisition by a new private equity-backed company of a pharmaceuticals portfolio from Merck.
  • Formation of a new private equity-backed company to acquire annuity portfolios.
