Through French law, European and international texts, but also through the actions taken by companies and the organisations they have set up, the boundaries of compliance have changed. The law on the duty of care and its application by the courts has further changed the framework.

On 17 June 2025, the Paris Court of Appeal handed down its first ruling on this basis, marking a major turning point in the way legal obligations are now interpreted and enforced.
