The long-awaited final rule in response to President Obama’s Executive Order 13563, published May 12, 2014, significantly affects health care facility regulations and will impact the operation of hospitals, long-term care facilities, ambulatory surgery centers, rural health centers and other provider types. Aimed at “streamlining” Medicare and Medicaid regulations, the final rule addresses a number of long-standing issues in the health care provider community and is a welcome step in reducing the heavy regulatory burden borne by the industry.
