As part of the International Underwriting Association’s Developing Technology Monitoring Group Spring Conference, Arvin Abraham, Andrea Best, Shawn Helms and Alexandra Scheibe presented NFTs Explained – An Exploration of An Emerging Asset Class and Relevant Issues for the Insurance Industry and Digital Art.

The presentation provided a high-level overview of what NFTs are and how they are currently regulated in the US and UK. It also explored the interplay between insurance and NFTs including issues for underwriters to consider in potentially insuring NFTs; insuring traditional companies that have begun offering NFTs; NFT’s increasing overlap with high-value art and related insurance considerations; and emerging insurance issues related to NFTs and their potential applications in the metaverse.
