Frankfurt a.M., December 16, 2021 – McDermott Will & Emery has advised US private equity investor Sterling Partners on the acquisition of a stake in the Lecturio Group. Lecturio raised a total of 40 million euros in fresh capital as part of a financing round in which Sterling Partners was joined by other new and existing stakeholders.
Lecturio, founded in Leipzig in 2008, is an e-learning provider that distributes video-based learning concepts for the fields of law, medicine, taxes and business.
Chicago-based investment management platform Sterling Partners focuses on the education sector, among others.
The transaction is another example of McDermott Will & Emery’s experience in the technology and e-learning segment. “e-learning is a market of the future – not only the pandemic has proven that,” said Dr. Michael Czielsa, Partner at McDermott in Frankfurt. “Lecturio has been successful in the market for years – a highly interesting and strategically convincing investment for Sterling Partners. We gladly contributed our expertise.” A team around Dr. Michael Cziesla has already advised, among others, the shareholders of karriere tutor GmbH on the sale to Findos Investor GmbH and the subsequent re-investment by the sellers.
The team advising Sterling Partners was led by Michael Cziesla and comprised Partners Gregory R. Metz and Florian Lechner, Counsel Christian Marzlin as well as Associates Isabelle Müller, Lisa Schickling, and Greg C. Berson.
