Prominent International Antitrust Leader Joins McDermott

Overview

International law firm McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that Andrew J. Lee has joined the Firm’s Regulatory practice as an antitrust partner based in Washington, DC. Andrew is an esteemed advisor in antitrust issues and regularly represents Korean and Japanese electronics, engineering and shipping clients facing high-profile antitrust activity enforcements. He is highly respected globally for his work in cartel defense and merger review proceedings for international corporations based in Asia.

“Andrew is a recognized leader in the international antitrust sphere and has a deep understanding of Asia-Pacific-based clients’ global needs,” Ray Jacobsen, global head of McDermott’s Antitrust Practice, said. “His leadership role in high-profile antitrust cases is often a catalyst to additional counsel outside of his core practice, providing cross-practice collaboration opportunities. As a trusted strategic advisor, clients around the world will benefit from his business acumen and legal prowess.”

Before moving to the private sector, Andrew started his career at the US Federal Trade Commission where he initiated several high-profile antitrust enforcement actions and broadly assisted the Commission’s leadership in formulating competition law enforcement policies. His practice now focuses on the coordination of cross-border antitrust investigations and criminal enforcement matters, and particularly involves counseling international corporations based in Asia-Pacific markets.

“I am thrilled to join McDermott, a firm that sincerely fosters a collaborative culture and is committed to supporting my clients across a variety of mission-critical practices,” Andrew said. “McDermott’s global platform and reputation will also generate incredible opportunities for my clients who are looking to grow and expand their businesses.”

In addition to his core antitrust practice, Andrew actively advises his clients on a broad spectrum of legal, government and policy issues to promote their global expansion. In recent years, Andrew’s work has spanned the areas of trade secrets litigation, consumer product regulatory advice and investigations, defense of consumer civil class actions, FCC and privacy regulatory advice, international trade investigations, US government relations and policy advice, international arbitrations and biotech transactions, among others.

Andrew is the second international antritrust partner McDermott has added this month, following Hendrik Viaene joining in Brussels.

Andrew received his JD from University of California, Los Angeles School of Law and his BS from The Johns Hopkins University. Prior to joining McDermott, he was a partner at Hogan Lovells LLP.
