International law firm McDermott Will & Emery announced today the appointment of Shah Jahan Khandokar as a partner in its global Energy & Infrastructure Practice in London. Shah Jahan joins the Firm’s 50-plus strong global energy team operating across jurisdictions and helping clients resolve complex issues arising from both macro trends and local issues within the industry.

Shah Jahan is a project development lawyer with extensive experience in energy and infrastructure projects advising across the full energy spectrum.

He joins from Hogan Lovells where he served as a member of the Firm’s energy and natural resources leadership team.

Shah Jahan has broad experience in a range of energy subsectors including conventional power, renewables, hydrogen, oil and gas, LNG, and trading. He focuses on international energy projects, advising foreign investors/sponsors, lenders, and host governments in multiple jurisdictions including Africa, Asia and the Middle East. His clients include multilateral organisations such as the World Bank Group, power developers, international energy companies, mining companies and trading houses.

He has advised on a variety of high value low-carbon projects, including advising a consortium led by BP and SOCAR on one of the world’s largest energy projects, the US$40 billion Shah Deniz 2 gas project in Azerbaijan, advising the lenders in connection with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s US$1 billion Sudair 1,500 MW solar PV plant and representing multiple sponsors and lenders in relation to Egyptian FiT projects (solar and wind totaling US$1.5 billion. He also recently advised the Government of Uzbekistan and the International Finance Corporation on the procurement of the Sirdarya 1,200 – 1,600 MW CCGT power plant and a host government on the procurement of CCUS projects, and continues to advise the management company of an emerging markets energy platform in its US$500 million fund raising and the sponsors of several Asian energy and infrastructure projects.
