McDermott Advises Octopus Energy on the Acquisition of MN projects

Overview

Frankfurt, May 14, 2025 – McDermott Will & Emery has advised Octopus Energy Generation on the acquisition of Hamburg-based project developer MN projects with a development pipeline of 2 gigawatt (GW). The deal was made through the Octopus Energy Development Partnership, a fund that invests in clean energy across Europe.

MN projects GmbH develops more than 70 renewable energy sites across Germany. The company’s multi-gigawatt portfolio includes solar farms and battery storage projects, the first of which are ready to build. The projects, with a capacity of 2 GW, can deliver enough solar energy to power around 500,000 German homes.

Octopus Energy Generation, the renewable energy division of Octopus Energy Group, is one of the largest specialized renewable energy investors in Europe. The company manages green energy projects such as wind and solar parks in over 15 countries with a capacity of 4.3 GW and a value of €8.5 billion.

The acquisition of MN projects is Octopus’ ninth investment in Germany in less than three years. It follows last year’s investment into Lintas Green Energy, a developer building 1 GW of new wind and solar farms across Germany by 2030, in which Octopus was also advised by McDermott.

The McDermott team was led by partner Maximilian Uibeleisen and comprised partners Philipp Grenzebach, Christian Krohs, Dr. Christian Rolf, counsel Holger Mlynek and Simon Groneberg as well as associates Jan Ischreyt, Constanze Götz, Lisa-Marie Tillmanns and Sönke Wassermann.
